I might be aging out of this bike thing. Don't tell George. He doesn't read the blog anyway! I mean how much desert can a person look at?

When I started working at CPS my coworkers would staff cases about people who had addiction issues and the terms, 'people, places, things', would roll off their tongues. I pretended I knew what they were talking about - and now I do. People who are trying to stay sober need to stay away from those who are not. Anyway, I like the idea of people, places, and things as a guide. Like yesterday. I wrote about a gas station we went to, again, but given that I was writing at 2:00 am I did not really flesh it out. The town is a quarter of a mile long. If you were in the passenger seat of the car and bent over as the car rounded the curve to enter the town, you would miss it. The town. So, when George was getting gas another biker had just finished and he walked over to the shade to drink something. He proceeded to stare at us as he drank and I noticed that he had opened his leather jacket and there was nothing underneath! Duuuude! Really, people, places, things. You can't make this stuff up. So we pull out and George says he thinks we had lunch in this town last time. Really? Did you see a cafe? A bar? A hot dog stand? No, because we ate in Eureka!!!
This is our third day on the road and I have had two grilled cheese sandwiches.

We discovered the 8th wonder of the world today. The Larb Hollow Overlook on Scenic Byway 12 is breathtaking. I do not have language to describe this magical site. If I lived near here I would spend a lot of time at this particular overlook. There are others, but this one is special. You can look this up on line and read about it.

It has been a long day on the bike, but the weather was wonderful, sunny, overcast, rainy, and then sunny again. Just right for seasoned riders. Wish you were all with us.

I'm wondering if you might have considered a "Grilled Cheese Sandwich Off". By this, I mean, what if you compared and contrasted various grilled cheese sandwiches at various diners, hither and yon? I would definitely be interested in the various nuances.
ReplyDeleteBut just for giggles, and because I am (as you know) extremely nosy and also jealous of your sightseeing places I have never sightsaw, I did google your overlook. And WOW! I mean it. Plus your cute Boulder Mountain Lodge is pretty cool. Annnnddd... who wouldn't be intrigued by the Hell's Backbone Grill or whatever?? Lotsa cheesy stuff there, and you could mix it up a bit. Check it out and let us know, K?
You read my mind, which is no surprise, I still have a favorite grilled cheese sandwich from our trip here two years ago. It was raining out, I had lost my glasses, and I was not feeling well and we stopped at this random place, racing across the street to get out of the rain, and into the home of the The Best Ever.
